Aaliyah McQueen added a double-double with 15 points, a Titan career-best 16 rebounds, and two dimes to lead Detroit Mercy to a 78-48 season-opening win over Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall. This also marked the first Titan victory for Head Coach Kieffer Haffey.

Detroit Mercy (1-0) jumped out to a 21-3 lead while the defense held Valpo (0-2) scoreless for over nine minutes to lead 21-9 after the first quarter.
Valpo ended the first quarter and opened the second quarter on a 17-3 run to pull within three points, 23-20, at the 5:42 mark. McQueen and Jackson hit layups, ending the Titans' scoring drought to lead by six points, 33-27, at the break.
UDM's offense got back on track as a 3-ball from Jackson capped off a 10-2 run to open the third quarter for a 43-29 lead at the 5:28 mark of the third quarter. The Titans closed out the frame with a 12-point lead, 53-41, heading into the fourth quarter.
Detroit Mercy opened the fourth quarter on a 12-7 spurt and never looked back as the Titans' defense locked down the Beacons, holding them scoreless over the final 3:30 minutes while outscoring Valpo 25-7 overall, cruising to the victory.
