Makayla Jackson, who had a game-high 23 points with a career-best seven rebounds, while graduate student
Jasmine Edwards posted her second Titan career double-double with 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting and a Titan-best 15 rebounds as UDM's fourth quarter rally came up short in an 86-80 setback to Rochester Christian on Monday afternoon at Calihan Hall.
Senior
Myonna Hooper added 10 points while dishing out a career-high eight assists. Sophomore
Maya Anderson matched a career-best 11 points and six rebounds, while
Addisen Mastriano was the fifth player in double figures with 10 points. Freshman Naïma Diawara also chipped in with six points. Detroit Mercy (4-8) dished out a season-best 18 assists on 34 made baskets for their highest scoring output of the season.
Trailing 65-59 in the fourth quarter, Jackson sank a pair of free throws, followed by 3-pointers from Hooper, Jackson, and Hooper again to cap off an 11-4 run, giving Detroit Mercy the lead at 70-69. Jackson, Edwards, and Hooper each added layups, putting the Titans up 78-74 with 2:55 remaining. However, Rochester Christian (7-6) added the next four points to draw even and moved ahead 80-78 after Edwards missed a pair of free throws. Hooper then missed a jumper with 1:06 left, forcing the Titans to foul. The Warriors connected on all six ensuing free throws over the final 29 seconds to seal the game.
RC opened the third quarter on a 13-7 spurt to take the lead 51-48 and went on to outscore UDM 25-18 for a 65-59 lead at the end of the frame.
In the first half, both teams played to a 19-19 tie at the end of the first quarter. The Titans then edged the Warriors 22-19 in the second to take a three-point lead, 41-38, into the break
