Titans Freeze Green Bay For Winter Blast Win

DETROIT (2/1/2025) -- For the second-straight game, the Titan defense kept its opponent from getting on track, and the offense came up with some timely shots as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team swept its homestand with a 67-57 victory over Green Bay on Saturday.

Following its 68-57 victory over NKU on Thursday, the Titans held back-to-back opponents under 60 points for the first time since the 2021-22 campaign as the University held its annual Winter Blast festival.

Junior guard Orlando Lovejoy scored 19 points with four rebounds, four assists, and tied his career-high with five steals. Junior Legend Geeter added 15 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Nate Johnson posted 12 points and hauled down seven boards.

It was a back-and-forth game early on, but Green Bay (2-22, 0-13 HL) led by two, 25-23, with 6:23 left in the first, when the Titans (8-16, 4-9 HL) went on a 10-0 run and took a 33-28 advantage into the break.

In the second half, Geeter had back-to-back baskets, and freshman Chase Kuiper had an offensive rebound and putback for a 39-30 lead.

The Phoenix cut it to three at 44-41 at the 11:39 mark, but Nadeau had five-straight points, and Lovejoy followed with two straight baskets, the second off a steal and beating Green Bay down the floor for a layup, to push the advantage to 12, 53-41, with 9:36 remaining.

UDM stopped another Green Bay spurt as a jumper from Lovejoy and a three from Nadeau had the team up 58-49 with just under five minutes to go. The Titans would again extend the margin to as many as 12 as they out the game away.

Detroit Mercy shot 42.1% from the field and was 13-of-14 (92.9%) at the free-throw line. The Titans also had seven steals and committed just six turnovers, while holding Green Bay to 7-of-28 from the outside.

Nadeau ended with eight points, two rebounds, and two assists. Freshman Ryan Kalambay had six points, four rebounds, two helpers and a steal, and Kuiper tallied two points and a season-high five boards.

Detroit Mercy will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Robert Morris.
