Four Titans Earn Horizon League All-Academic Honors For Indoor Track & Field

Four Titans were honored for their athletic and academic achievements.
INDIANAPOLIS (3/20/2025) -- Three Titan men and one female were honored for their effort on the track and in the classroom as the Horizon League Valeo Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Teams were released on Thursday.

Graduate senior Simon Jones, junior Joshua Otten, and sophomore Joshua Neary earned spots on the men's team, while senior Nina Pizzo was selected to the women's squad. Otten also received the honor for the second straight season and the fifth of his career - with two in cross country and another in outdoor track - while Jones, Neary, and Pizzo were all honored for the first time.

Otten is an English & Political Science major who won the mile at the HL Indoor Championships and was also third on the 4x400 and sixth on the distance medley relay. During the regular season, he won the 3,000-meters at Eastern Michigan and the mile at Saginaw Valley, setting top 10 marks in school history in both races.

Jones is a Business major and scored at the conference indoor meet in the heptathlon with 4,223 points - fourth in the Titan record book. In the event, he set personal records in the 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump.

Another Business major, Neary claimed fourth in the HL Indoor Championship in the heptathlon, recording 4,303 points - third in school history. During the event, he set PR's in the 60m, shot put, pole vault and the 1,000m, winning that race.

Pizzo is a Bio-Chemistry major and scored by running a leg on the fourth-place DMR and was also ninth in the mile at the HL indoor meet. She tallied a career-low time in the mile at Michigan's Silverston Invite, taking eighth, and won the 3,000m in a career time at Saginaw Valley.

A total of 34 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, while 15 more were tabbed as honorable mentions in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives. The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports.

To be eligible for Horizon League's All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.

An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
