GREENVILLE, S.C. (3/4/2025) -- Senior
Maddy Camm nearly broke a school record in caused turnovers and reached a milestone with her 100th career draw control, and junior
Libby Cuckler tallied a career-high in points, but it just wasn't enough as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team fell, 18-12, at Furman on Wednesday night.
Camm posted a career-best five caused turnovers - one shy of the school mark - to go with a career-tying five ground balls, a career-best four assists, and pulling down a team-high five draw controls to give her 104 in her career.Â
Meanwhile, Cuckler registered a career-high six points and career-best four goals with two assists. Senior
Leah Bodnar had three goals, two draw controls, and a ground ball, and junior
Alyssa Jarvis and freshman
Sophia Schwab each netted two goals.
Detroit Mercy (2-3) got off to a slow start as Furman (5-0) went up 3-0 before Bodnar scored on the free position with 2:29 left in the first.Â
Furman went up 5-1 before Bodnar struck again early in the second and the Titans got within two, 6-4, as freshman
Gabrianna Vasquez and Cuckler each beat the keeper with 5:26 on the clock. Late in the half, Camm recorded her first assist as she fed Cuckler to make it 9-5 at the break.
The Paladins kept the offense going, but UDM kept responding as Jarvis struck for her first off a pass from Cuckler early in the period, and back-to-back goals from Schwab and Jarvis had the team down just 12-8 with 3:04 to go.Â
That was as close as the Titans would get, with Furman adding two markers to close out the third. Camm found Cuckler for her hat trick in the fourth, but the Paladins went up 16-9 with 11:01 left. UDM scored three more in the quarter, but time ran out on a comeback.
Senior
Meredith Leavell finished with four saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover, while senior
Katie Bilello had a caused turnover, a draw control, and two ground balls.
The Titans were 14-of-17 on clears and had eight caused turnovers.
Detroit Mercy will remain on the road in South Carolina as it visits Presbyterian on Friday.
