Men's Basketball Welcome Five More To Six & Livernois

Head coach Mark Montgomery announced the signing of five players for next season.
DETROIT (4/16/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team has added to its roster with the signings of five student-athletes for next year.

Joining the team is Zak Abdalla (Las Vegas, Nev.), Keshawn Fisher (Detroit, Mich.), Joey Liedel (Mason, Mich.), London Maiden (Cleveland, Ohio) and Tyler Spratt (Farmington, Mich.).

"I feel that these five players, along with the fall signings of Lance Stone and Jekel Cotton, will add skill, scoring, quickness, and athleticism to our returning core," said head coach Mark Montgomery. "We have a good mix of freshmen and veterans, but more importantly, we have guys coming in that want to work hard and put in the time."

Zak Abdalla * G * 6-2 * 170-LB * Las Vegas, Nev. * Trinity Prep
  • Played this past year at Trinity Prep and tallied 15.0 points in the PRO16/NXTPRO league, an Official Grassroots Partners of PUMA
  • Was selected All-State First team after averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals as a senior at Foothill High School
  • A four-year starter in high school
Coach Monty on Abdalla: "Zak is a kid who can really shoot the basketball and brings a high IQ to the floor."
 
Keshawn Fisher * G/F * 6-7 * 200-LB * Detroit, Mich * River Rouge / Overtime Elite 
  • A three-star recruit and an 85 rating on 247Sports.com
  • Prepped at Overtime Elite this past year and posted 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.,4 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.1 blocks, and was a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year
  • Recorded double figures in 11 games, with a 20-point performance and a double-double
  • Named All-State First Team by the Detroit News and the AP as a senior at River Rouge in 2024 after tallying 25.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 blocks, shooting 50.6% from the field and 35.7% from three
  • Helped his team to a regional title as a senior
  • Averaged 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as a junior
Coach Monty on Fisher: "Keshawn is an extremely talented player who played for one of the top prep academies this past year in Overtime Elite as well as a top high school team in River Rouge. He can play on both ends of the floor and is looking forward to returning to his hometown."
 
Joey Liedel * G * 6-0 * 175-LB * Mason, Mich. * Mason / Kalamazoo Valley
  • Played his freshman year at Detroit Mercy in 2020-21, seeing action in  four games as a reserve, scoring in his collegiate debut at Notre Dame by knocking down a three
  • Missed the next two seasons dealing with an injury but has played the last two years at Kalamazoo Valley Community College
  • In 2024-25, earned NJCAA National First Team All-American, Region XII Division II All-Region, All-MCCAA First Team, and the Western Conference Player of after averaging 23.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting nearly 40.0% from three
  • Had 25 games scoring 20 or more points, eight games with 30 or more, and a pair of 42-point outings
  • In high school, he finished his senior year averaging 30.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists and concluded his high school career with 2,202 points, 16th in state history, and 334 career 3-pointers, six shy of the all-time state record, while holding the Monroe County Region records for career points and 3-pointers
Coach Monty on Liedel: "We all know he is a great shooter, and that is something we needed to add. He is a great kid who has been through a lot to get back to this position, but we are getting a guy who can score and someone who is tough and willing to work hard for everything."
 
London Maiden * F * 6-8 * 250-LB * Cleveland, Ohio * Richmond Heights / Blinn College 
  • Tallied 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds, shooting 59.2% from the field and 71.0% at the line, this past year at Blinn College, earning a spot on the NJCAA All-Region XIV Team 
  • Posted 19 games in double figures and collected three double-doubles
  • As a freshman, averaged 7.4 points and 4.7 rebounds at Mar Hills University, netting a season-high 24 points against Benedict
  • In high school, he averaged 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as a senior, helping his team to a regional championship as a senior
Coach Monty on Maiden: "London is a skilled big man who can score, help clean the glass and control the paint. He is a smart big man who continues to improve in all facets of his game."
 
Tyler Spratt * G * 6-5 * 200-LB * Farmington, Mich. * North Farmington / Cleveland State
  • Redshirted for Cleveland State this past season
  • In high school, he helped lead North Farmington to back-to-back district championships as well as an OAA Red Conference title
  • Earned All-League and All-State Honorable Mention accolades as a senior after posting 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.0 assists
Coach Monty on Spratt: "Tyler is an athletic player who brings a seven-foot wing span to the floor. He is a good defensive player and another guy who can shoot and help us play faster and more efficiently in transition."
