ADRIAN, Mich. (4/25/2025) – Sophomore
Nicholas Johnson earned a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash to lead the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team at the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational, hosted by Siena Heights University on Friday.
Johnson logged a personal best time of 22.21 seconds. He also ran a PR of 10.84 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
The 5000-meter run saw sophomore
Kenyon Popiel earn a fourth-place finish for the Titans, crossing the line in 16:25.79 and freshman
Andrew Drakos registered a top-five finish for UDM in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.48.
Senior
Cody Bartlett led the Titans' effort in the field events with a runner-up finish in the high jump, recording a mark of 1.91 meters.
In the triple jump, freshman
Jack Gonzalez leaped to a fifth-place finish with a mark of 11.53 meters, while graduate student
Simon Jones placed fourth in the long jump with a career-best 6.61 meters.
The 4x100 relay team of Johnson,
Mike Ferguson,
James Wallace, and
John Almeda finished third in 42.46.
Detroit Mercy closed the meet with the 4x400 relay event as the quartet of Johnson, Ferguson,
Ashwin Philip, and
Isaiah Bonner took home third with a time of 3:24.26.
A select group of Titans will head to Ohio State next week for the Jesse Owens Classic, while the squad gets ready for the Horizon League Outdoor Championships in two weeks.
