Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Titans Torment Cleveland State To Clinch A Spot In NEC Postseason

CLEVELAND (4/26/2025) -- For the first time since 2021, the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team will be in the postseason as the Titans cruised past Cleveland State, 15-4, on Saturday night.

UDM will be the No. 4 seed and will play top-seeded Le Moyne in the Northeast Conference Championship semifinals at Le Moyne on Thursday.

Detroit Mercy (5-6, 4-3 NEC) scored the first three goals of the game and led 9-1 early in the third en route to its fourth straight, the second-longest winning streak in school history behind the five in a row in 2018.

Senior Chase Mahabir tallied a career-high eight points on four goals and a career-best four assists. The eight points are tied for the third most in school history and the most by a Titan since 2019, while the four helpers are tied for the fourth-best in the record book.

Redshirt freshman Marcus Thundercloud posted five a season-high five points on four goals and one assist, while freshman Andrew Parker finished with a season-high five points on two goals and three assists and collected three ground balls.

Senior Ryan Richters made 19 saves and allowed a career-low four goals - the fewest goals by the Titans since 2018 - and senior Harold Skinner had a career-high three caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Parker got the Titans going with a goal three minutes into the game. A few minutes later, a takeaway by Skinner led to another goal as senior Nolan Graalman found sophomore Gavin Moore for his second of the season. After a few saves from Richters, the Titans peppered the net with shots when Mahabir set up Thundercloud's first, and it was 3-0 at the 5:27 mark.

Cleveland State (4-10, 2-5 NEC) netted its first goal midway through the second, but the Titans kept the pressure on as Mahabir and Thundercloud went back-to-back. Mahabir would score again with the Titans down a man - the second straight week, he found the back of the net with the man down - and a couple of minutes later, Mahabir fed senior Aidan Bishop, and he beat the keeper with the man down to make it 7-1 at the break.

Thundercloud scored early in the third, and Bishop had a man-up tally at 12:01 to extend the advantage to 9-1 before taking a 10-3 lead after three with a goal from Graalman. Mahabir added two more goals in the fourth, and the rout was on from there.

Bishop finished with two goals and an assist, while Graalman had a goal, an assist, and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior Will Marshall had two takeaways and three ground balls, and freshman Ian Greenwell had a caused turnover and four GB's.

The Titans attempted a school-record 59 shots - compared to 34 from CSU - and had the ground ball advantage, 40-33. UDM registered a season-high 10 assists - tied for third in school history - was 22-of-25 on clears and 4-of-5 with the extra-man attack, all while scoring a school-record two man-down markers.

The Northeast Conference Championships will get underway on Thursday as #2 Robert Morris will play #3 LIU in the other semifinals. All game times will be released in the near future.
