UDM Registers 10 Top Five Finishes In Spring Opener

Freshman James Wallace clocked the seventh best 100-meter time in school history at Oakland.

ROCHESTER, Mich. (4/5/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team saw some fine performances as the Titans wrapped up their spring opener in the Golden Grizzly Invitational on Saturday.

Freshman James Wallace was involved in a few of them as he took second in the 100-meters in 10.71 - the seventh best time in school history - third in the 200m with a time of 22.24 and ran a leg on the runner-up 4x100 meter relay.

Freshman Andrew Drakos posted a time of 58.20 for second in the 400-meter hurdles, ahead of sophomore Joshua Neary's 59.83 effort for fourth.

Junior Jaden McKenzie placed third in the 400m in 50.02 and freshman Jack Gonzalez took fifth in the triple jump with a season-high 12.09 meters.

Graduate senior Simon Jones tallied a mark of 44.40-meters in the javelin for third and sophomore Anthony Yip was fifth in the discus with a career throw of 45.29m.

The 4x400 team of Wallace, McKenzie, Jones and sophomore Nicholas Johnson recorded a time of 42.11 for runner-up and in distance, freshman Ryan Belanger and Nicholas Yaquinto were ninth and 10th, respectively, in - 15:32.87 and 15:34.39.

UDM will return to competition next week as the Titans are set to compete at Central Michigan's Chippewa Challenge and Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic.
