DETROIT (5-21-25) - The Detroit Mercy softball team and the Athletic Department mourn the loss of Assistant Coach
Tony Misuraca, who unexpectedly passed away on Monday, May 19.
Misuraca joined the softball coaching staff for the 2025 season, helping UDM secure 10 wins, which included two Metro Series victories over arch-rival Oakland, followed by a series win at Robert Morris, giving the Titans consecutive #HLSB series wins for the first time since the 2019 season.
Before Detroit Mercy, Misuraca spent 16 years as the head coach at Sterling Heights Stevenson High School, earning 444 career victories while leading Stevenson to two Macomb Area Conference (MAC) Red titles, nine district titles, and two regional titles. He was also named Macomb County Coach of the Year twice and had two Macomb County Teams of the Year.
Under his direction, 39 former Stevenson players went on to play collegiate softball. Misuraca was also inducted into the Macomb County Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame in 2025 after a 25-year prep coaching career.
Misuraca earned an associate degree in business administration from Macomb Community College in 1976 and worked as an industrial sales representative for Vesco Oil Corporation for 38 years.
Misuraca is survived by his wife, Kim, and two daughters, Krysta Whitbread (Brett) and Andrea Kennedy (Brian), as well as four grandchildren: Bryce, Kade, Rosalee, and Joslyn.
