DETROIT (7/2/2025) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's cross country season is less than two months away, and this year's roster has been set with the addition of four student-athletes.
Joining the men's team is Colin Murray, while Sophia Aquino, Alaa Selman and Addie Stanley will all run for the women's team. All four will also compete in track and field.
"Colin has the ability to make an immediate impact at the top of our group and help the men build on the improvements from 2024," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Guy Murray '89. "We are going to have a strong pack team in 2025 for the women, and all three of the rookies have the potential to be in the pack and contributing."
Colin Murray * Redford, Mich. * Divine Child
- A four-year letterwinner in cross country and track
- Tabbed All-State in cross country three times, finishing 25th as a sophomore, ninth as a junior, and fourth as a senior
- Was also a three-time All-Catholic and All-Press & Guide in cross country, including first-place finishes at the regionals and the Catholic League Championships as a junior and senior
- Was All-State five times in track, including back-to-back in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters as a junior and senior, and on the 4x800 as a sophomore
- His dad is the current coach, ran cross country and track for the Titans, and was the 1989 President's Award winner, while his sister, Kaitlin, ran cross country and track for the Titans from 2019-2023
Sophia Aquino * Shelby Township, Mich. * Utica
- A four-year letterwinner in cross country and track
- Was a state qualifier in cross country as a junior and senior
- Helped her team reach the state finals as a senior for the first time since 2006, as the program won a league championship and the MAC White divisional meet
Alaa Selman * Dearborn Heights * Crestwood
- Earned varsity letters in cross country, track and field and soccer
- A three-year captain in cross country and track and field
- Earned All-Conference in cross country all four years and was also All-Academic
- Helped her team win three conference championships
- Tabbed with the Coach's Award in cross country as a junior and senior
- Was named the track MVP as a sophomore and junior, and the Coaches Award as a junior
- Holds the school record for the 400 and 800 meters and the mile
Addie Stanley * Indianapolis, Ind. * Cathedral
- Earned varsity letters in cross country and track and field
- Selected the cross country team MVP as a senior and the Newcomer Award as a sophomore
- Earned Cathedral High Honors for all three seasons and helped her team win the Nike Twilight as a senior, where she finished seventh
- Was an All-American in cross country for USATF in 2003
- In track and field, she was a state qualifier on the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay, helping her quartet break the school record in both events
