NORMAN, Okla. (7/29/2025) -- Three University of Detroit Mercy men's golf student-athletes received the highest academic honor in the sport as the Golf Coaches Association of America announced its 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars.
Earning the honor were sophomores
Gowtham Nalluri,
Mason Sokolowski, and
David Swab, all for the first time in their careers.Â
Swab, a Business major, was one of four Titans to start all nine tournaments and play in all 24 rounds this past season, leading the team with a 73.71 average, ninth in school history. A Finance major, Sokolowski started all nine tournaments and was second on the team with a 74.29 average, the 16th best in school history, while the chemistry major Nalluri ended the year tied for third on the team with a 74.67 average.Â
Since the award's inception in the late 2000s, 17 Titans have earned the academic recognition.Â
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
