Men's Track & Field Sign 18 For Upcoming Season

DETROIT (8/14/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team got off to a hot start to the 2025-26 season with the signing of 18 student-athletes for the upcoming campaign.

The talent is spread throughout all the units of the team and will feature 17 freshmen and one transfer.

"We matched our record total recruit class from last year," said Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Guy Murray '89. "This class will maximize our roster limit to be the most complete we have had in a long time.  The class has some instant impact guys and lots with big potential to find their spot and contribute."

Kwaku Awuah * Sprints * Amarillo Tex. * Munster (Ind.)
  • Lettered in basketball and track and field
  • A two-time team MVP
  • A two-time state qualifier
  • Earned All-State as a junior and senior in the DMR
  • Also a two-time All-Conference honoree in the 400-meters
  • Won the 400m at the sectional championships as a junior
  • Helped his quartet set the school's 4x800 record
  • Named the Most Improved Athlete as a sophomore
  • Ran club with the Gary Steelers Track Club and was a two-time Junior Olympic regional qualifier and posted a top 150 time in the nation for the indoor 600m
  • A member of the National Honor Society

Mason Brodie * Throws * Clinton, Mich. * Clinton
  • A varsity letterwinner in football and track and field
  • A four-time state qualifier in the shot put and discus, and was a two-time All-State
  • Won a league, county, and regional title all four years
  • Also a four-time Academic All-State honoree
  • A member of the National Honor Society

Micah Chaney * Sprints * Pontiac, Mich. * Clarkston
  • Earned letters in basketball and track and field
  • Tabbed the team's MVP as a senior
  • Was All-State twice in the 4x400 and a regional champion in the 100-meters as a junior
  • Helped his squad set school records in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400
  • Ran club with Elite performance

Tristan Crooks * Sprints * Warren, Mich. * Fitzgerald
  • Earned letterwinners in cross country and track and field
  • Won the 400-meters in the conference and at the regionals as a senior

Joey DeCasas * Jumps * Shelby Township, Mich. * Notre Dame Prep
  • Earned varsity letters in basketball, football, and track and field
  • A two-time state qualifier and was All-State in the long jump as a junior, taking third place
  • Also won the long jump in the regionals as a junior and was All-Oakland County
  • Left his high school as the record holder in the long jump

Kyle Falls * Jumps * Woodbridge, Va. * Saint John Paul the Great (Marymount)
  • A transfer from Marymount (Va.), who was Second Team Atlantic East Conference as a freshman
  • Also the Rookie of the Year and posted the third-best marks in school history in the high jump and triple jump
  • Lettered in track and field in high school
  • Named the team's MVP as a senior
  • Ran club with the Dale City Lightning and was a two-time Junior Olympian and nine-time AAU All-American 

Angelo Finnie Jr. * Hurdles * Southfield, Mich. * West Bloomfield
  • A four-year letterwinner in track and field
  • A two-time team MVP
  • Tallied the most points for the team for three straight years
  • Was All-State on the 4x400-meter relay as a junior and senior and All-State in the 110-meter hurdles as a senior
  • Won the 300mH at the regionals as a senior and also ran the 400mH at the New Balance Nationals
  • Ran club with the Motor City Track Club and was a four-time All-American
  • His dad, Angelo Finnie, won 10 Horizon League titles between the long jump and triple jump as a Titan and helped the team to a share of the conference championship as a senior on the 2003 HL Outdoor Championship team 

Isaiah Fox * Hurdles/Jumps  * Adrian, Mich. * Adrian
  • Lettered in basketball, football and track and field
  • Earned team MVP and the Coach's Award as a senior
  • Was All-Region in the long jump and county champion as a senior

Weston Glei * Hurdles/Jumps * Allen Park, Mich. * Allen Park
  • A varsity letterwinner in football, basketball and track and field
  • Was All-League in track as a senior
  • A state qualifier as a senior
  • Broke the school's 110-meter hurdles record and tied the high jump mark
  • A member of the National Honor Society

Luke Hansen * Sprints * Dearborn, Mich. * Divine Child
  • A multi-varsity letterwinner in baseball, football, and track and field
  • Was All-Catholic in the 400-meters, 4x200 and 4x800 as a senior
  • Also All-Region in the 400m, 4x200, and 4x400 in 2025
  • Helped his team to a regional title as a senior

Nickolas Henson * Jumps/Sprints * Detroit, Mich. * Woodhaven
  • Lettered in football and track and field
  • Earned All-State and All-League in the long jump
  • Set the school record for the long jump
  • Ran club with Maximum Output and was a national qualifier for the Junior Olympics for four years

Bennett Holloway * Throws * Colchester, Conn. * Bacon Academy
  • Will also fence for the Titans
  • A varsity letterwinner in soccer, cross country, fencing, and track and field
  • A two-time All-Conference performer in the javelin

Miller Jones * Hurdles/Sprints * Overland Park, Kan. * Blue Valley West
  • Lettered in football and track and field
  • Won a conference 300-meter hurdles title as a senior
  • Helped his high school to three league championships and a state title with Olathe HS as a sophomore
  • Holds the school record for the 300mH
  • Ran club with Hot Feet and qualified for the Junior Olympics twice

David Keel * Sprints * Sterling Heights, Mich. * Stevenson 
  • Earned letters in football and track and field
  • Tabbed All-State in the 4x100 as a senior
  • Ran club with Str8 Smokin Track Club and was a two-time All-American

Colin Murray * Distance * Redford, Mich. * Divine Child
  • A four-year letterwinner in cross country and track, and will also run on the Titans cross country team
  • Tabbed All-State in cross country three times, finishing 25th as a sophomore, ninth as a junior, and fourth as a senior
  • Was also a three-time All-Catholic and All-Press & Guide in cross country, including first-place finishes at the regionals and the Catholic League Championships as a junior and senior
  • Was All-State five times in track, including back-to-back in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters as a junior and senior, and on the 4x800 as a sophomore
  • His dad is the current coach, ran cross country and track for the Titans, and was the 1989 President's Award winner, while his sister, Kaitlin, ran cross country and track for the Titans from 2019-2023

Deon Robertson * Jumps * Woodhaven, Mich. * Woodhaven
  • Earned letters in basketball and track and field
  • Was a state qualifier in the long jump, placing fourth
  • Won the high jump at the Metro Championships

Simon Root * Multi * Tempe, Ariz. * Brophy Prep
  • A letterwinner in football and track and field
  • Was a three-time All-State honoree in the decathlon
  • Also tabbed All-Conference
  • A member of the National Honor Society

Lachlan Tillotson * Hurdles/Jumps * Rochester, Mich. * Rochester Adams
  • Lettered in basketball, football, and track and field
  • A three-time state qualifier
  • Was a regional champion in the high jump as a sophomore 
  • Rab club with Elite Performance XL, and was an AAU 60-meter hurdles champion
  • His sister, Justice, played on the UDM women's soccer team in 2024
