Myonna Hooper was one of four players in double figures, pouring in a season-high 22 points (just missing her career-high by one point) on 6-for-10 shooting, 2-for-3 from 3-point range, and 8-of-11 from the free throw line as Detroit Mercy came up short, 80-70, to arch-rival Oakland in Metro Series action on Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall.

Jasmine Edwards posted her team-best fifth double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while adding three assists and two steals, marking the fifth consecutive game she has grabbed 10-plus rebounds. Junior

After shooting 15-for-30 (50%) in the first half, Detroit Mercy (4-14, 2-7 HL) couldn't maintain the pace, only shooting 5-for-19 (26.3%) in the third quarter. Oakland (6-12, 3-5 HL) took advantage, opening the third quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 47-39 lead. However, UDM responded, outscoring the Golden Grizzlies 11-7, capped off by an and-1 layup by Hooper to trail by four points, 54-50, going into the fourth.
OU's hot shooting continued in the fourth quarter, making it hard for the Titans to get over the hump. The Golden Grizzlies shot 7-for-11 (63.6%) and hit 11-for-13 (84.6%) from the free throw line. Conversely, UDM shot 6-for-15 (40.0%) while going 7-for-8 (87.5%) from the charity stripe to be outscored 26-20 in the frame, making it hard to cut into the deficit.
Hooper opened the game with the Titans' first three points. Anderson connected on back-to-back driving layups, giving UDM the lead at 9-7 by the first media timeout. Out of the timeout, Oakland responded with a 9-0 run to move ahead 16-9 before Hooper hit a 3-pointer, ending the spurt. Jackson then hit consecutive layups, including one to beat the buzzer, pulling the Titans within two points, 20-18.
Both teams continued to battle in the second quarter, playing to a draw with each scoring 17 points. Diawara hit a jumper, pulling the Titans within two points, 37-35, at the break.
Detroit Mercy travels to Milwaukee on Thursday, Jan 22, at 7 p.m. ET.
