DETROIT (1/9/2026) -- Senior
Legend Geeter tied his career high with 22 points and the Titans cut a 19-point deficit down to a one-possession game, but could not get on top as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 84-82, to Wright State at home on Friday night.
Geeter was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field and 5-of-7 at the line, while grabbing six rebounds.
Redshirt sophomore
Tyler Spratt also had a career-high with 16 points, going 6-of-10 from the field with six boards and a steal. Senior
Orlando Lovejoy tallied 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and sophomore
TJ Nadeau had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
Detroit Mercy (6-9, 3-3 HL) saw Wright State (10-7, 5-1 HL) take a 55-36 lead early in the second half and was down 74-59 with 6:33 left when the red, white and blue made a charge, going on a 14-2 run over the next three minutes.
It started at the line as Spratt, Lovejoy, and Nadeau all made a pair of free throws. After a WSU basket, Lovejoy made two more and sophomore
Nate Johnson got an offensive rebound and putback, getting fouled on the play, and his free throw made it 76-70. The Titans then came up with a stop, and UDM crashed the glass again as Geeter's layup off a miss trimmed the score to 76-72.
Wright State was able to stop the bleeding and run the lead back to seven, 80-73, but Geeter nailed a three, and then two free throws from Nadeau had the score at 80-78 with just under 30 ticks left.
UDM would pull within one, 83-82, after a jumper from Spratt with four seconds on the clock. The Titans fouled and Wright State made one of two at the line as Detroit Mercy got the ball back with 2.1 remaining, but it could not get up a game-winning shot.
The Titans shot 46.7% from the field and were 23-of-31 (74.2%) at the line. UDM won the rebounding battle, 35-28, and committed just 10 turnovers, none in the second half.
Junior
London Maiden scored eight points, but played just nine minutes due to foul trouble, and senior
Jared Lary had four points and three assists.
It was a back-and-forth game early on with several ties and lead changes. The Titans took a 24-21 as sophomore
Ryan Kalambay and Lary had back-to-back baskets.
Detroit Mercy also had a 32-29 lead after two Geeter free throws and a layup from Spratt, but WSU would take a 44-33 lead at the break and eventually run the margin up to 55-36.
The Titans will look to close their three-game homestand with a win as they host Cleveland State on Sunday, with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
