FAIRBORN, Ohio (2/12/2026) -- Senior
Legend Geeter came up with a big block and redshirt freshman
Tyler Spratt delivered the game-winning shot with under 10 seconds left as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team captured a win at first-place Wright State, 77-74, on Thursday night.
The win was the first at Wright State since 2013, ending a seven-game slide to WSU overall and an 11-game losing streak on the road to the Raiders.
Senior
Orlando Lovejoy scored a game-high 18 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the field. Geeter ended with eight points, eight rebounds, two assists, and that key block with just over a minute to go, and Spratt finished with nine points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.Â
Detroit Mercy (11-13, 8-7 HL) trailed by eight in the first half, but stormed back to take a 12-point lead, 50-38, early in the second.Â
Wright State (16-10, 11-4 HL) erased that and jumped ahead by seven, 72-65, with 4:43 left, but the Titans ended the game on a 12-2 spurt, including scoring the last eight points.
Lovejoy and Spratt started the late charge with back-to-back baskets. After a bucket by the Raiders, sophomore
TJ Nadeau was able to get in the lane and hit a jumper to make it 74-71 with 3:01 remaining.
Both teams nearly went two minutes without scoring until Geeter came up with a block on the defensive end, ripping the ball from the Raiders' player, and then attacked the glass again on offense, finishing with a layup to make it a one-point game, 74-73, with 1:21 left.Â
It was the same score with 30 seconds to go when the Titan defense clamped down to force a miss, and the ball ended up in Spratt's hands, and he went to the paint for a jumper and a 75-74 lead. The defense held again, and sophomore
Ryan Kalambay came up with a defensive rebound and was fouled, hitting two free throws with .9 on the clock to seal the victory.
Kalambay ended with eight points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Junior
London Maiden had 10 points and five rebounds, and freshman
Je'kel Cotton hit three 3-pointers for a season-tying nine points.Â
The Titans shot 52.5% from the field - the fourth time in the last five games they have shot at least 50.0%. They outrebounded the Raiders, 37-32, and had just 10 turnovers, four after the first six minutes of the game.Â
It was back and forth early on, but WSU took a 19-11 lead at the 11:34 mark of the first and also led by eight at 25-17 with 6:22 remaining when UDM started to chip away. Spratt started that with a three, and then Lovejoy followed with back-to-back scores, the last where he was fouled, and he hit the free throw to knot the game at 25-all.
It was 31-31 when freshman
Lance Stone drilled a three, and two straight triples from Cotton followed that, as the Titans went into the break up 40-34.
Detroit Mercy would go on a 10-2 run in the second as a layup from Kalambay and two free throws from Nadeau had the squad up 50-38 with 16:31 left before Wright State made its run to reclaim the advantage.Â
The Titans will now get ready for their final regular-season homestand with three straight at Calihan Hall, starting with Youngstown State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
