DETROIT (2/15/2026) -- Six Titans scored in double figures as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team stayed hot with another victory over a team from Ohio, downing Youngstown State, 76-70, at home on Sunday afternoon.
The win gave the Titans their third Horizon League sweep of the season, as they had already claimed both games against IU Indy and Cleveland State.
The triumph also moved Detroit Mercy to 12-13 overall and 9-7 in the Horizon League, the most conference wins since ending the 2022-23 season at 9-11.Â
Junior
London Maiden had 13 points and three rebounds, going 5-of-6 from the field in just 10 minutes of action, while redshirt freshman
Tyler Spratt had 15 points and a career-high nine boards. Freshman
Lance Stone and senior
Orlando Lovejoy scored 12 points and dished out three assists, and sophomores
TJ Nadeau and
Ryan Kalambay added 10 apiece.
The Titans scored the first five points and never trailed, eventually opening up to a 15-point lead in the second half.
UDM had a double-digit lead early at 16-6 as Maiden went inside for back-to-back baskets, and would later raise it to 11, 25-14, as Nadeau hit a jumper and Spratt knocked down a trifecta midway through the half.
Detroit Mercy held on to that 11-point lead for a few minutes until the Penguins cut it to two, 31-29, but Kalambay had an offensive rebound and putback, and Lovejoy had two straight scores for a 37-29 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Nadeau connected on a 3-pointer and then had a jumper to push the lead to 13, 42-29, just two minutes in. YSU (13-14, 6-10 HL) trimmed it to five, 49-44, but back-to-back triples from Stone and Nadeau, then another bucket from Stone, gave the red, white and blue its largest lead of 15, 61-46, with 7:21 remaining.
The Titans had a 14-point advantage with over four minutes left when YSU made one more charge, clipping it to three, 69-66, with 58 seconds left, but UDM made 5-of-6 free throws the rest of the way to close out the contest.Â
Detroit Mercy shot 43.5% from the field and was 17-of-22 (77.3%) at the charity stripe. The Titans had just seven turnovers and outrebounded the Penguins, 38-33.Â
