Hannah Schlachter picked up where she left off yesterday, going 2-for-2 hitting her second home run in back-to-back days while sophomore
Natalie Babcock went 2-for-3 with a two-run triple as Detroit Mercy fell 9-1 to host Western Kentucky and 14-4 in a rematch against Butler on the second day of action at the WKU Hilltopper Classic on Saturday at the WKU Softball Complex.
Freshman
Jenna Higgins broke up WKU's no-hit bid in the top of the fifth inning while sophomore
Abby Klaft went 1-for-2 with an RBI to drive in Higgins for Detroit Mercy's (2-7) lone run in game one.
Higgins and Klaft also added a hit each in game two against Butler. Sophomore
Mia Hubbell added a hit, while junior
Jada Davis had an RBI.
Western Kentucky Recap:
• WKU got on the board with a pair of home runs (a two-run shot and a solo homer) to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
• The Hilltoppers added to their lead with another two-run home run in the third inning to move ahead 5-0.
• They moved ahead 6-0 off a fielder's choice in the fourth inning.
• Higgins recorded UDM's first hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Klaft followed with an RBI single to plate Higgins, putting the Titans on the board.
• WKU went on to add three more runs in the bottom half to close out the game in the fifth.
Butler Recap:
• Butler took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off an error in the first inning
• UDM responded in the second inning with Schlachter's home run in the second inning.
• The Bulldogs added an RBI single in the top of the third and followed with a three-run homer in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.
• The Titans responded in the bottom half as Babcock's triple scored sophomore
Wendy Ketola and Schlachter. Davis then added a sacrifice fly to plate Babcock, cutting the deficit to 5-4.
• Butler added a pair of runs off a bases-loaded hit by pitch, followed by a walk to move ahead 7-4.
• The Bulldogs went on to add three runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
The Titans conclude play at the Hilltopper Classic with a rematch against Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 11 am ET.
