BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (2/9/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team had a tough start to the season, but one freshman was recognized for his performance as Tommy Thompson was named the NEC Rookie of the Week.

The short stick defensive midfielder tallied two caused turnovers at #10 Ohio State to start his collegiate career.

Last year, Marcus Thundercloud was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week. He is also the first SSDM to win a weekly award since head coach Charlie Hayes '18 earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times in 2018.

Detroit Mercy will be back in action tomorrow when it visits Michigan in a 2:00 p.m. game.
