UDM Takes Runner-Up Honors, Three Titans Tally Top 20 Finishes At NKU

Sophomore Ethan Oblak was in the top 20 with a career-best at NKU.
BATAVIA, Ohio (4/7/2026) -- Two Titans were in the top five and three claimed top 20 spots to help the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team to a second-place finish at NKU's Jewell Invitational on Tuesday.

The red, white and blue finished the tournament with a 299 for a runner-up score of 871 (287-285-299) at the par 71, 6,845-yard Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio. The event included a season-best 285 in the second round. It was the best finish for the Titans since taking second at the Bucknell Invitational in the fall of 2019.

Graduate senior Bavake Sihota led the way by tying for third with a 214 (70-70-74). He posted 13 pars and a birdie on the final 18 and had a chance to force a three-way playoff, but his birdie putt on 18 did not fall in.

Overall, he led the team and was tied for second in the field with 37 pars, and was tied for second on the par 4's with an even-par, 4.00 average.

Junior Mason Sokolowski shared fourth place - his first ever top 10 tournament - and was just two shots off the lead with a 215 (68-72-75). He got off to a slow start in his final round, but knocked in five pars and four birdies in his final 11 holes. Sokolowski was also first on the team and tied for third in the field with 11 birdies, and played the par 3's to a +1, 3.08 average, also third among the competitors.

Sophomore Ethan Oblak finished up his best-ever scorecard as he had his first collegiate top-20 effort by tying for 18th with a career-low 221 (74-69-78), which also included a career-best 2-under 69 in round two. Junior David Swab was in 26th place with a 223 (77-74-72) as he posted the best round of the day with five pars and five birdies for a 1-over 72.

As a team, the Titans registered 39 birdies, tied for second, and 159 pars, fifth in the competition. They also tied for the lead in the 14-team field with a _19, 4.12 average on the par 4's and a +17, 3.28 average on the par 3's.

UDM will have one final event before the Horizon League Championship, competing in the Wright State Invitational next week, Apr. 12-13.
