Despite cold and wintry conditions throughout the tournament, the University of Detroit Mercy men's golf team surged for a tie of third place at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, IL.

The event marked the third straight top five finish in the fall season for UDM, and the fifth straight dating back to last season's spring campaign.

Senior David Byrne (Essex, ON/Essex), who tied for the tournament lead with 40 pars, claimed another top-three showing of his own earning a share of third place with a three-round 218 (73, 72, 73) tally. In his two other fall events, Byrne placed third at Michigan State and a tie for second at DePaul.

Junior Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) was tied for 15th carding a 225 (76, 73, 76). Freshman Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON /Holy Cross) was 44th with a 231 (77, 73, 81) score, which included nine birdies tying him for the second most on the course.
