Men's Track and Field

Records Fly On The Track Saturday

Personal records flew as the Titan track and field team split up and competed at both the Akron Open and the Windsor Team Challenge on Saturday

Detroit stalwarts Lesley Hanna and Patrick Liederbach led the way at the University of Akron, competing in the Gold (invitational) Division.

Hanna took second in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 47.86, just .02 behind the school indoor record. Liederbach, meanwhile, finished eighth in the mile with the second-best time ever by a Titan (4:11.43), and also took eighth in the 3000 meters (8:41.26).

“Lesley continues on his amazing season. It has been quite a breakthrough for him. He almost won out of the slower section and has been tough to beat head to head this year,” coach Guy Murray said.

“Pat had quite a breakthrough as well and then just missed his 3k PR.  Both Pat and Lesley have moved to a new level this season and are setting a good tone for the team.”

Additionally, Earnest Cleary took seventh (6.98) and Deonte Osayande 10th (7.04) in the 60 meters in the Gold Division, both with personal record times. In the Blue (open) Division, six more personal records fell:

- Kevin Smalley taking fourth in the 3000 meters (8:55.54);
- Osayande 11th (22.47) and Earnest Cleary 16th (22.64) in the 200 meters;
- Alex Harris fourth (15:31.36) and Ryan Ayala sixth (15:50.65) in the 5000 meters; and
- Alex Gould 14th (1:57.78) in the 800 meters

Kevin Smalley's was a PR by 12 seconds and it is fantastic for Kevin as he really dedicated himself to running last year and put in the miles and great to see it pay dividends for him,” Murray praised.

“Overall, we had an amazing meet where almost everyone ran a PR. The guys are working hard and have great attitudes, creating a great team environment that is helping everyone flourish. We are ready for a fun Horizon League meet.”

 Vushaun Landrum led the way in Windsor, taking seventh place in the 60 meters with a personal record time of 7.11, while Joe LaRocca placed ninth in the 300 meters (36.44).
