Gametracker

Horizon League Network

UDM makes its fifth trip into the state of Illinois as well as their fourth appearance in the “Windy City” as the Titans take on longtime Jesuit rival Loyola on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. (EST) at the Gentile Center.

Matt Dery “The Voice of the Titans” will have all the action on WDTW-AM 1310. The Detroit-Loyola match-up will televised in Chicago on the Lakeshore Public Television Network. The Horizon League will have the webcast of the event. Be sure to check the new DetroitTitans.com and the HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv for more details. Fans can catch all the action with a live stats feed through CSTV's gametracker.

The Titans (7-18, 2-13 HL) will look to end a two game losing streak, which came on the heels of UDM winning three out of five. Both losses have come on the road as Detroit is in the middle of a four game road trip which started with a trip to Chicago last week when the Titans faced UIC.

ABOUT LOYOLA

Loyola comes into the match-up at 13-15, and 5-11 in the Horizon League. The Ramblers had lost six in a row, but came up with a huge win their last time out when they took down No. 15/15 Butler, 71-67.
Senior J.R. Blount is the team's leading scorer at 13.6 points per game, good for sixth in the Horizon League. He is also averaging 4.3 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per contest.

Senior Justin Cerasoli is second on the squad with 10.6 ppg., while freshman Jordan Hicks has really come on of late averaging 16.0 points over his three games, including a team-high 23 points against Butler.

Loyola has been without the services of three forwards in seniors Andy Polka, Leon Young and junior Ross Foreman. Polka has missed the last 17 games, while Young and Foreman have missed the last two.

Jim Whitesell is in his fifth year as head coach at Loyola, and overall, his 21st season as a head coach.

DETROIT VS. LOYOLA
One of the oldest rivalries in Titans history continues when Detroit faces Loyola. The contest marks the 112th meeting, which began with a 31-13 Titan victory in 1922, between the two schools, the most against any opponent in UDM history. Loyola owns a 66-46 lead in the series and has won six of the last seven overall games and seven of the last eight match-ups in the Gentile Center.

JESUIT MATCH-UP
Today's game is part of the nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project, using Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education.

The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project highlights more than 90 games this season between men's and women's teams from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Each of the 28 is dedicated to strong academics and teaching women and men to serve others and live a faith that does justice.

The spotlight project includes awareness announcements during these designated games and during gamecasts on radio and television; and other awareness opportunities. Jesuit, Catholic colleges and universities in the United States have more than 200,000 students currently and more than 1.7 million living alumni.

The Jesuit educational mission began in Europe approximately 500 years ago.

HE'S A SHOOTER
You do not have to know basketball that well to know that sophomore Ryan Janer's best asset is his 3-point shooting. Janer has attempted 16 shots on the year with 11 from behind the arc, where he is 6-for-11 on the year.

BRACKETBUSTER HAS TITANS IN MUSIC CITY
The last missing piece on Detroit's men's basketball schedule was filled in when it was announced that the Titans will play at Tennessee State on Feb. 21 as part of the annual ESPNU BracketBuster. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST) in what will be the first career meeting between the two schools.

The event marks the seventh-straight year that Detroit will participate in the event. Detroit is 4-2 all-time in Bracketbuster games.

BracketBusters, named because of the success of the teams in NCAA Tournament play, will have a 102-team field this season, with 12 teams from the Mid-American Conference and Colonial Athletic Association in addition to 10 from the Horizon League, Ohio Valley Conference, Missouri Valley Conference and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

As part of the BracketBusters agreement, all 51 home teams will play a “return” game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December of the following season.

AMONG HL LEADERS
UDM junior Woody Payne is currently 10th in the Horizon League with a .454 field-goal percentage.

HAYES GRABS NO. 400
Senior forward Chris Hayes reached a milestone against Valparaiso on Feb. 7. With the first of his nine boards on the day, Hayes reached the 400-career rebounds mark. Hayes now has 418 rebounds in his time with UDM, an average of 3.4 rpg., which includes a team best 6.2 mark as a junior.
