Visiting Green Bay had four players in double figures and never trailed as the Phoenix prevailed over the Detroit Titans, 78-62, on Thursday night in Calihan Hall.
Ryan Tillema led the way for the Phoenix with 18 points as GB pushed its record to 22-8 (13-4 HL). Troy Cotton backed him with 17, while Mike Schachtner (14) and Rahmon Fletcher (11) followed next in line.
Eulis Stephens matched his season high with 17 points to pace Detroit (7-21, 2-15 HL). Thomas Kennedy (13) and Eugene Blue (10)joined Stephens in twin digits.
Green Bay took an early lead, hitting five of its first seven shots including three 3-pointers by Cotton, to jump out in front 13-4. The Titans stormed back with six straight points, four by Blue and a bucket by Stephens, to trim the deficit to just three, 13-10, with 13:31 left, but GB was able to reclaim its larger edge and took a 36-24 lead into the half.
Detroit came out of the locker room on fire, scoring the first five points of the second stanza en route to netting 15 points in the first four minutes of play. That cut the Green Bay lead to just five, 44-39. However, Green Bay responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to once again regain a double-digit lead, 55-41. The Titans would never be able to claw back within 10 points the rest of the way.
Green Bay shot an even 50% from the field while Detroit hit at a .404 clip. The Titans held a slim 30-29 rebounding edge, but were charged with 16 turnovers against just a dozen by the Phoenix.
The regular season comes to an end on Saturday as the Titans host Milwaukee at 4:05 p.m. Prior to the contest, Detroit will honor its three seniors – Tryl Hartfield, Michael Harrington and Chris Hayes.
