Titans Defeat Central Connecticut State, 11-8

The Titans started off its trip to the East Coast on a winning note as Detroit captured a 11-8 victory over Central Connecticut State at Arute Field in New Britain, CT, Wednesday evening. With the win, UDM improves to 2-4 on the year, while the Blue Devils fall to 0-6 on the year.

Detroit freshman Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) and freshman Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) tied for a game-high in goals with four apiece, while eight different athletes scored for CCSU.

Boissonneault opened up scoring not even two minutes into the contest and has now scored the first goal for the Titans in every game thus far this season. In addition, this marks the fifth time this year in which Boissonneault has netted the first goal for either team.

At one point during the first half, Detroit scored four consecutive goals, with Eidem finding the back of the net for two of those with the last at 16:42 to put the score at 5-1. The Blue Devils responded with three goals of their own and then Boissonneault netted the final Detroit goal of the first half with just under two minutes remaining to have the scoreboard read, 6-4. However, CCSU freshman Ashley Perkoski was able to add to the Blue Devils goal total with seven seconds left in the half.

Eidem scored two more goals in the second stanza, while freshman Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) scored her lone goal of the contest, which was the eventual game-winner, at 17:40 to put the score at 9-6. Freshman Kandice Bogatz (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) and Boissonneault also scored in the second half for the Titans.

Freshman Brett Yenger (Cincinnati, OH) collected 17 saves in 60 minutes of play, while CCSU senior Alice Lee registered 16 saves on the evening.

Detroit edged CCSU in ground balls, 22-21, while the Blue Devils had a 14-8 advantage in draw controls.

The Titans continue play out East as they face Quinnipiac on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Hamden, CT.
