Softball's Ellen Sinclair Named First-Team All-Horizon League

Detroit sophomore third baseman Ellen Sinclair (Chatham, ON/Chatham-Kent) was named First-Team All-Horizon League following a vote of the league's softball coaches.
 
This marks the first time Sinclair has earned All-League honors and she is the first Detroit softball player to garner First-Team accolades since Sarah Dickey and Kaleigh Rafter in 2007.
 
Sinclair has had a very successful season leading the Titans in batting average (.442), hits (61), RBI (29), runs (27), doubles (7), total bases (85), walks (14), slugging percentage (.616) and on base percentage (.494) while ranking second in home runs (5). She is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 41 of the Titans' 47 games including multiple hits and RBI in 17 and nine games respectively. In the final regular Horizon League statistical report, she ranked first in batting average (.442) and on base percentage (.494), second in hits (61) and slugging percentage (.616), sixth in total bases (85) and 10th in RBI (29). Her .427 average as of April 26, also ranks 23rd in country according to the latest NCAA statistical report.
 
The 2009 Horizon League Softball Championship, hosted by Butler University, begins on Thursday, May 7 when sixth-seed Valparaiso takes on seventh-seen Green Bay at Legends Field in Pendleton, Ind. Ninth-seed Detroit will face fourth-seed Loyola in opening at 1 p.m.
