The Titans dropped a 20-5 decision to Canisius in women's lacrosse action at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo Sunday morning.
Canisius scored the first five goals and sophomore
Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) put Detroit on the scoreboard at 15:47 for her 23rd goal of the season, with help from sophomore
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson). Almost eight minutes later, Boissonneault netted a goal, while Mahorn found the back of the net for the second time with 1:23 remaining in the half and sophomore
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) earned the assist. However, junior Carly Quinn scored one for the Griffs with nine seconds left to give Canisius a 10-3 advantage at the break.
Detroit's fourth goal came from freshman
Erin Campbell (Orangeville, ON/Orangeville District Secondary) off a free position shot with 22:41 remaining in the contest to put the score at 14-4 and Boissonneault netted her second goal of the game about 11 minutes later, which was unassisted, to put the score at 18-5.
Sophomore
Brett Yenger (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) played almost the entire game for the Titans and earned the loss after she collected 15 saves and allowed 19 Griffs' goals. Freshman Gina Molfetta was in net all 60 minutes for Canisius and she had 10 saves, while allowing five UDM goals.
The Griffs (5-4) had a slight 29-26 advantage in ground balls, while Detroit was successful on 10 clear attempts compared to Canisius' 13.
The Titans (3-8) will return to action when they host Howard at Titan Field on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m.
