Box Score
Sophomore
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) and freshman
Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA/Dublin) scored a pair of goals, but the Titans attempt for its first ever win over a ranked opponent was not in the cards as No. 18 Ohio State defeated UDM, 21-4, on Sunday afternoon in Columbus.
OSU (9-6) started the game scoring eight straight goals before Boissonneault, who also had a game-high five ground balls, found the back of the net at the 20:39 mark. Almost two minutes later, Detroit had its second straight tally as Hamze fired one in between the pipes.
The Buckeyes were just too strong on the day going on another big spurt to take a 17-2 advantage until Boissonneault's 55th goal of the season stopped that. Hamze would add her second with less than three minutes to play on a free position shot.
Detroit ends the regular season, its second season as a Division I program, at 6-11 overall, but will now enter the post season as the fourth seed in the National Lacrosse Conference tournament. The NLC tournament will begin on Friday with all the games played at Longwood University in Farmville, VA.
Detroit will face the fifth seed in Presbyterian in the first round of play at 4:00 p.m. The Titans cruised past the Blue Hose, 18-10, back in February. For more information on the NLC and the conference tournament,
