DETROIT-- Detroit jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 112-52 win over the Madonna Crusaders (NAIA) in the season's first exhibition at Calihan Hall Saturday night. The Titans' offense reached the 100-point plateau with just under six minutes left in the game.
Detroit built the lead quickly, grabbing a 13-3 advantage before the first media timeout.
P.J. Boutte fed
Doug Anderson with a behind-the-back pass on the break and the Titans led early, 17-6. Anderson drove the lane and finished strong with two hands and seconds later,
Nick Minnerath stole a pass and jammed on the other end as the offense continued its up-tempo pace.
At the break, Detroit enjoyed a 48-27 lead while forcing Madonna into 20 turnovers.
It would be the second half, however, where the Titans got the offense clicking on all cylinders. With a 64-point out-pouring in the second stanza, Detroit rolled-up 112 total points on the night and looked impressive in the season's first showing.
Minnerath led the Titan attack, scoring a game-high 27 points with eight rebounds and four steals. The senior hit 5-of-8 from deep as Detroit hit 12 triples on the night. Five Titans scored in double figures as
Chase Simon scored 19,
Ray McCallum had 17 while
Jason Calliste had 16 and Anderson added 11.
Detroit will close out the exhibition slate next Saturday, hosting Ashland University (NCAA D-II) in a 7:00 p.m. tip.
