Final Stats
DETROIT— Host Detroit was a 96-65 winner over the Ashland Eagles (NCAA D-II) Saturday night at Calihan Hall in exhibition play. The game was the final tune-up for the Titans as they will host Lake Erie College Friday night to officially open the 2011-12 campaign.
The Titans, as they did a week ago in their first exhibition, started strong and got out to a big lead from the tip. Detroit hit on nine of its first 11 shots, but Ashland scrapped back to close within five at 22-17 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Jason Calliste had a very efficient opening half, scoring 15 points on 4-of-4 shooting, including five assists, three steals and two rebounds. Behind Calliste's effort and a whopping 76.9 field-goal percentage as a team, Detroit took a 55-32 lead into halftime.
Ray McCallum led all scorers with 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting. He added five rebounds and three steals. All seven Titans that played scored at least nine points.
Donavan Foster had 14 while
Doug Anderson and
Nick Minnerath each added a dozen.
LaMarcus Lowe recorded 10 points, six blocks and five rebounds.
Detroit begins its regular season with the home opener on Fri., Nov. 11. Lake Erie, also an NCAA Division II school from the GLIAC, will be the opponent with tip slated for 7:00 p.m.
Notes: The Titans were 112-52 winners in their other exhibition (Oct. 29) against Madonna University (NAIA).
