INDIANAPOLIS -- The Detroit women's basketball team saw its season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League championship as the seventh-seeded Titans were defeated by No. 2 Butler, 64-38, at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

Junior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) led the way with eight points hitting all three of her shots from the field, while adding four rebounds and an assist. Sophomore Cherridy Thornton (Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior) scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) had four points and seven boards.

Detroit (13-18) saw Butler (19-12) score the first five points of the game en route to opening a 17-6 lead halfway through the first period. The Titans tried to slow down the Bulldogs' offense and were getting good looks at the basket on their possessions, but nothing would fall for Detroit as it went into the half down 31-12.

Detroit came out of the locker room determined to get back in the game, but six-straight points by Butler to start the half ended all hopes of a comeback as the red, white and blue could not get any closer.

Junior Britney Murphy (Saginaw, MI/Arthur Hill) had a game-high three steals to go with six points and two assists. Detroit did force the Bulldogs into 15 turnovers and outrebounded them on the offensive glass, 14-7.

Game Notes:
Detroit's 10-of-11 (90.9%) tally at the free throw line was a season-best with 10+ attempts… Shayok ended the year averaging 10.2 rebounds per game,  just the fifth Titan in school history - and the first since Cheryl Day in 1990 (10.9) - to average double-digit rebounds… Jones ended the season with 355 career assists and is just 10 behind Amira Danforth (1991-95) for sixth in Titan history…The 38 points were the lowest by the Titans since they scored 39 at Iowa State in 2008…It is the second-straight season that Butler eliminated Detroit from the HL tournament.
