DETROIT – The women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Ohio State Buckeyes by the final score of 26-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Zaynib Hamze led Detroit with a goal and five ground balls.
Ohio State's offense was too powerful for Detroit as the Buckeyes scored the first 15 goals of the game. Brittney Zerhusen led OSU with a six goal performance. Cara Facchina, Alayna Markwordt, Kirsten Donahue, Morgan Obendorfer and Kelly Becker also scored multiple goals against the Titans.
Emily Boissonneault put Detroit (2-10) on the scoreboard with a goal at the 6:26 mark of the first half. The Titans opened the final half on a high note scoring two of the first three goals. Hamze found the back of the net just over two minutes into play, and
Anna Eidem scored her 22nd goal of the season with just over 22 minutes remaining.
Jenna Alberts played all 60 minutes for Detroit in the net. The freshman ended the game with six saves. Ohio State used two keepers against the Titans. Annie Carruthers got the start and the win by making four saves in the first half, while Megan Fiorito cleaned up in the second half with five saves.
Detroit will return to National Lacrosse Conference action this weekend with a contest against Howard. Opening draw is scheduled for noon.
