Titans Eliminated from NLC Tournament

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Longwood Lancers and Friday night by the final score of 16-9. The Titans will end the 2011 season tomorrow in a consolation game against Presbyterian. Opening draw is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Titans played well in the second half, but an 8-3 deficit after 30 minutes of play was too much to overcome. Anna Eidem sparked the offense with a four-goal performance. She also won two draw controls, collected three ground balls and caused four turnovers.

Emily Boissonneault and Corina Mahorn rounded out the scoring for the Titans. Boissonneault scored a hat trick and recorded a game-high six ground balls. Mahorn added two goals off three shots.

Longwood took control of the game early by scoring five straight goals early in the first half to open up a 6-1 lead. Kesley Dean capped off the run with two free position goals. Dean ended the game with a hat trick and three assists. Other Lancers impacting the game on the offensive side of the field included Emily Whitman, Jaime Brentlinger, Cara O'Brien and Stephanie Schenkel.

Detroit was forced to play Alycsa Valentine at goalkeeper due to injuries. Valentine registered her first career start in net and made an impressive 14 saves against the Lancers. Juli Liebig was the goalkeeper for Longwood. She got the win by making seven saves. Alicia McCarty also got involved in the action for the Lancers. She played the final 16:39 and made one save.
