CLEVELAND (10/2/2012) -- The day started with a rain delay as the Titans fought their way through wet conditions to earn sixth as play wrapped up at the Cleveland State Invitational.
The two-day event was played on the Par 72, 7,012-yard Canterbury Golf Club, the site of numerous PGA events, including the PGA Championship, US Open, US Amateur and Senior Players Championship.
UDM ended the tournament with a 907 (309, 297, 301) for sixth, just seven strokes shy of a top-five finish. Oakland won the event with an 871, host Cleveland State was second at 874, while Appalachian State (892), Youngstown State (897) and IPFW (900) rounded out the top five.
Freshman
Wil Wittmann posted his first collegiate top-10 effort in just his second career tournament as the rookie carded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to claim eighth with a 220 (71, 75, 74). He also tallied 11 birdies in the event.
Senior
Simon Reyers shot a 1-over 73 to share 22nd with a 227 (82, 72, 73), while junior
Brendan Leonard posted a 230 (75, 76, 79) to tie for 32nd. Reyers converted a team-best 36 pars – second in the tournament - with seven birdies, while Leonard led the team in Par 5 average with a 4-under, 4.67 mark, and knocked in eight birdies of his own.
Freshman
Aaron Knutson had his best round on Tuesday with a 3-over 75 to finish tied for 45th after totaling a 236 (81, 80, 75) scorecard.
The men's golf team will be back on the links next Monday, Oct. 8, when the Titans head to Hebron, Ky., and the Traditions Golf Club to play in the Bearcat Invitational.
