HEBRON, Ky. (10/9/2012) --
The Titans finished the second round and then completed the final 18 on Tuesday as Detroit ended the Bearcat Invitational tied for seventh place at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.

“This was another new, difficult course for all of us,” said UDM head coach Mark Engel. “It was another learning experience and we will continue to build on this.”

UDM came back to move up the standings after finishing 12th at the end of round one. The rise came after posting a 293 in the suspended round two and a 306 on the final 18 for a season-best 901 scorecard.

Junior Brendan Leonard paced Detroit by tying for ninth with a 1-over 217 (70, 72, 75), just four strokes behind the leader. After his 2-under 70 in round one, he finished round two with an even-par performance before his 3-over 75 in the afternoon session. It was his season-best 54-hole tournament score and his second career top-10 effort.

“He really played well,” said Engel. “He struck the ball really well, probably the best since he has been here and he felt comfortable with all his shots."

Senior Simon Reyers tied for 26th with his best card of the fall in a 224 (76, 72, 76), including finishing round two with an even-par 72.

Freshman Josh Shaw shared 41st tallying a season-best 230 (76, 75, 79), while fellow rookie Wil Wittmann was right behind him tying for 46th with a 231 (80, 74, 77). Freshman Aaron Knutson also turned in a strong, gritty round on the final 18. After not being able to complete round two with a wrist injury, he came back with a 78 in the third, giving Detroit its fourth score.

The Titans will be back in action on Oct. 22 when the red, white and blue play in the Dayton Invitational at the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
