JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior
Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) led the way with two goals, but it was not enough as Detroit dropped its second game in Florida with a 20-5 decision at Jacksonville. The game was the National Lacrosse Conference opener for both teams.
Along with Mahorn, seniors
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) and
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) along with junior
Lindsey Saunders (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) netted goals on the day, while sophomore
Tara Grady (San Jose, CA/Pioneer) tallied an assist.
Jacksonville (2-1, 1-0 NLC) started the game with five-straight goals in the first four minutes of play before Mahorn snapped that run. JU continued to find its offense scoring another five in a row. Eidem made the contest 10-2 with a tally at the 11:45 mark and Mahorn's second goal of the contest had UDM down 13-3 at the break.
Boissonneault posted her goal on a free position shot with 18 minutes remaining and Saunders' first marker of the year was unassisted with 2:45 left.
Detroit (0-2, 0-1 NLC) was outshot, 38-21, but split the draw controls on the day by winning 14.
Detroit will return home for a few days of practice before boarding a plane and heading to California at the end of the week as the Titans play three games at San Diego State. UDM will face Saint Mary's on Sunday, SDSU next Tuesday and California next Thursday.
