DETROIT -- The Titans are currently on their way to New York for the MAAC Championship and will open up the tournament on Friday as the second-seeded Titans meet third-seeded Canisius at 4:30 p.m. The MAAC Championship is being held at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist.
Fans that can't follow the Titans on the road can catch all the action with live stats or purchase a live webcast of each game. Both of those links are located on top of the release.
Tickets to the championship start at $15 for adults per session and $5 for students and children. Adults can also purchase an All-Session ticket for $25, which will allow them admission on both days. To purchase tickets, visit the MAAC Championship website by

The Titans enter the game at 6-8 overall and were 3-3 in conference play. They defeated Canisius earlier in the year, 17-12, on the road in the MAAC Opener for both squads.
The Titans have five players with double digit goals, led by sophomore
Shayne Adams' 32. Sophomore
Joel Matthews has 24, while sophomore
Alex Maini has posted 18. Senior
Scott Harris and redshirt freshman
Scott Drummond round out that group with 16 and 10, respectively.
Defensively, junior
Jordan Houtby tops the team and is second in the nation in caused turnovers with 39 on the season (2.71 per game), while also leading the team with 64 ground balls. Junior
Jamie Hebden has notched 21caused turnovers and 38 ground balls, while senior
Jason McDonald has 14 caused turnovers and 24 GB's.
Junior
A.J. Levell has made 138 saves on the season and has a .541 save percentage and a 10.12 goals against average.
Canisius is 4-7 on the season and was 3-3 in the MAAC. You can say that the Golden Griffins postseason began last week as they needed a victory at Marist just to make the MAAC Championship.
The Golden Griffins are led in scoring by Simon Giourmetakis' 39 points and 29 goals. Travis Gibbons is second on the squad with 22 goals and is tied for second at 28 points, while Tim Edwards has 28 points and a team-best 17 assists. Sean Callahan is the team's starting goalie and has 81 goals and an 11.23 goals against average.
LAST TIME AGAINST CANISIUS
Detroit started the day with four goals in the first five minutes and ended with a season high 17 as the Titans stormed past Canisius, 17-12, in the MAAC opener at the Demske-Sports Complex on Mar. 17.
Sophomore
Joel Matthews was the star offensively with a career-high seven goals – tying a school record. He also added an assist for a school record eight points.
Sophomore
Shayne Adams tallied three goals for his ninth career hat trick, while senior
Tim Lehto and sophomore
Alex Maini each added two goals apiece.
The Titans – who had leads of four and three in the game –found themselves down by one, 11-10, with just under three minutes left in the third.
That is when the red, white and blue took complete control with six-straight goals, scoring twice in the last 46 seconds to regain the lead heading into the fourth. Lehto notched his second to tie it and then Adams took a pass from Matthews for the go-ahead marker with nine ticks left.
That momentum carried right over into the fourth as Detroit fired in four goals in the first two minutes of play.
Junior
A.J. Levell made 10 saves to earn the win.
The Titans began the day with four goals on its opening five shots. That lead was short lived as Canisius rallied with four-straight goals to end the first period and would take a 5-4 lead early in the second.
UDM would knot the game on Adams' first goal and Matthews would put the Titans back ahead, but the Golden Griffins tied it once again at 6-all with 9:33 left in the second. Detroit would never trail the rest of the half taking an 8-7 lead at the intermission.
Matthews then gave the Titans a 10-7 lead at the 9:51 mark with back-to-back goals, but once again Canisius would go on a spurt scoring four-straight to take an 11-10 lead with 2:52 left in the third quarter.
On the day, Detroit had 17 caused turnovers, while Canisius had 30 total turnovers. UDM also held a slim 33-31 edge in shots
ALL-TIME AGAINST CANISIUS
The shootout that occurred earlier this year was out of the norm in the short history of these two teams. Detroit leads the overall series 2-1, but the first two games were one-goal outcomes.
In 2010, seven different Titans found the back of the net at Canisius, but
Tyler Staruch's last second shot hit the post and UDM fell, 9-8.
Last season, Detroit led 9-6 with 3:15 left when Canisius tied the game with three-straight goals in the next two minutes.
The contest went into overtime and with 1:46 remaining,
Scott Harris was able to fire in the game winner as UDM prevailed, 10-9, in the Motor City.
TITANS INCH CLOSER TO THE TOP
After finishing last year with the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Championship, the Titans are the No. 2 seed this season.
Last year in its first-ever MAAC Tournament, UDM upset No. 2 Marist, 9-8, before falling to top-seeded Siena, 12-3.
After the championship game,
A.J. Levell,
Jordan Houtby and
Tim Shoemaker were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Titans.
ONE MORE WIN FOR THE SCHOOL RECORD
The Titans' six wins matches their school record set last season and one more victory would be a program best for the fourth-year squad.
Detroit was winless in 2009, 3-12 in 2010 and 6-10 last season.
Remember, when the Titans added lacrosse, they added a program that was non-existent. There was not a club team or a Division II or III team that was elevated. UDM announced in the spring of 2007 that that it was adding men's and women's lacrosse (as well as men's tennis). Head coach Matt Holtz was hired in September of 2007 and he had basically a year to put a team together as they opened up play in February of 2009.
