CHICAGO -- High-scoring guard Chase Simon (Detroit, MI/Community) will don a professional uniform this summer as he has signed with the Chicago Bulls and will participate on their summer team in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

He is the second Titan to earn a spot with a NBA Summer League team this year as Eli Holman signed with the Houston Rockets last week.

“Chase had an outstanding career scoring over 1,300 points with us,” said UDM head coach Ray McCallum. “He was a key member of the turnaround of this program and I am happy that he has the chance to play in the NBA Summer League.”

The 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will feature 24 teams competing in a 60-game schedule from July 13-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. Chicago will play five games in the summer starting on July 17 against Boston.

Simon transferred to Detroit from Central Michigan and in his three years with the red, white and blue, he helped guide the Titans from last place all the way to a Horizon League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Simon finished his UDM career with 1,386 points – 17th in Titan history with 12 of the 16 players ahead of him having played all four years in the Motor City. He averaged 13.6 points per game as well as 4.5 rebounds (463) and 2.1 assists (221). His 138 3-pointers rank seventh in Titan history and he also added 123 steals.

He tallied 20 games with 20 or more points in his three years, including a pair of 30-point outings, while also recording four double-doubles.

As a senior, he was second on the team – and eighth in the HL- in scoring (13.3), field goals (155), 3-pointers (49), free throws (118), assists (87) and steals (41), while also ranking fifth on the squad with 4.4 rebounds per game. He tallied a season-high 27 points at Akron and also had 24 against Green Bay and 20 versus St. John's.

He burst on the scene as a sophomore and was selected to the All-Horizon League Newcomer Team as well as second team All-Conference. He led the Titans in scoring at 14.0 points per game, 11th in the league, and was also second on the squad in rebounding (5.1) and assists (2.5). He scored in double figures 26 times and poured in a career-high 33 points, including 22 in the second half, and a career-best 12 boards for his first double-double at Milwaukee.

As a junior, he averaged 13.5 ppg., which was tied for tops on the team. He recorded his 1,000th collegiate point in the win over Loyola in the HL First Round, and had four 20-point games in the final 10 contests of the year. His season high was also against the Ramblers torching the Jesuit-rival squad with 28 points in a home victory.

The NBA Summer League – which is in its eighth year of existence - has showcased some great young talent and future stars in the NBA recently, with six of the last seven NBA Rookie of the Year Award winners playing including: Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets, 2005-06), Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers, 2006-07), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City, 2007-08), Tyreke Evans (Sacramento, 2009-10), Blake Griffin (L.A. Clippers, 2010-11) and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers 2011-12).

NBA TV will televise all 60 games, including 39 live. Games will also be available on digital platforms at the NBA Summer League website.
