YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (2/24/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy indoor men's track and field team finished in fourth place overall with 58 points after the final day competition at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Youngstown State at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).
Loyola swept both the men's and women's sides of the competition totaling 157.5 points on the men's side and 190 on the women's for the win.
Taylor Hennrick continued to have a good overall competition in the heptathlon, winning the 60 meter hurdles in 8.75 and standing in second after six events, while
Anthony Donald was fifth, and
Jeffrey Senecal was sixth with the 1000-meter race still to come.
In that 1000m, Donald came in second at 2:58.85, Hennrick was third at 3:02.28 and Senecal finishing sixth in 3:09.78 with the final results seeing Hennrick earn runner-up with a total of 4,480 points to improve on his UDM record. Donald finished fifth with 3,876 points, while Senecal came in sixth with 3,156 points in his heptathlon debut. The event gave Detroit 11 total points as Hennrick totaled eight, Donald brought in two, and Senecal added a single point for the Titans.
The Titans also scored in several other events throughout the day.
The 60 meter hurdles had
Steven Ivanics come in third with a personal record of 8.24 for six points, while
Vince Lefler was sixth at 8.48 and one point.
Joshua Carolin improved on his time in the 800 meter run as he finished sixth at 1:54.65, earning a point for Detroit.
The 4x400 meter relay team of
Vince Lefler, Donald,
Chris Smalley, and
Joe Raffin clocked in with a time of 3:18.64 to place fourth and come up with four points.
In the shot put,
Jeff Sherman had a toss of 13.97m/45-10 to place sixth, tallying another point got UDM, while in the high jump,
Justin Peguese ended up in a tie for fourth with a leap of 1.95m/6-4.75 and recorded three points.
Ja'Quan Patterson was also in scoring mode again today after coming in second in the long jump yesterday. Patterson came in fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.90m/45-7.25 and brought in four points for UDM.
