Wil Wittmann each tallied a 1-over 72 as the Detroit men's golf team wrapped up a weekend of golf at Indiana's NYX Hoosier Invitational, held at the Indiana University Golf Course.
“I thought we played well with the Sunday pins all out today,” said head coach Mark Engel. “We just need to keep on practicing and continue to improve as we get closer to the Horizon League Championship.”
Detroit finished the final round with a 296 for a season-best 893 (302-295-296), tying with Horizon League-rival Youngstown State for 11th. IU defended its home course winning with an 850, while Illinois State was second (855) and Michigan took third (865).
Reyers was the top Titan in the clubhouse sharing 26th place with a season-low 221 (73-76-72). He added to his eagle on yesterday's first hole by finishing the tournament with a team-best 34 pars and tying for the fourth best score on the course's par 5's with a -3, 4.50 average.
Wittmann and junior
Brendan Leonard tied for 32nd with a 222. Wittmann improved his score all three days as his 72 followed a 77 and a 73 in the opening rounds, and he also was the team leader sinking 10 birdies. Leonard shot a 75 on the final 18 to go with his 73 and 74 in the first two rounds.
“Wil lowered his score again and Simon was right there to lead us,” added Coach Engel.
