DETROIT (5/13/2013) -- The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund will hold its fifth annual Hall of Fame Induction Dinner at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on Friday, May 17th. This event will honor players for their outstanding NFL playing careers as well as for their charitable contributions and former Titan Grady Alderman will be among the enshrined.
Alderman will join an induction class that includes such names as Dean Look, Greg Landry, Chris Spielman, Roger Zatkoff, Joe Greene, Jim Marshall, Rick Volk, George Perles, George Reed and Hugh Campbell.
The Chairman of the Gridiron Greats is former NFL Head Coach Mike Ditka who heads a Board of Directors list that includes Gale Sayers, Marv Levy, Kyle Turley and Matt Birk.
The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund has a mission to assist dire need retired NFL players who were pioneers of the game and who have greatly contributed to the NFL's status as the most popular sport in America. GGAF provides hands-on assistance to help retired players and their families deal with hardships they face after football. The services include medical assistance, transportation costs for medical evaluations and surgeries, dental assistance, housing assistance, financial assistance for utilities, medication, and coordination of services for food, automotive payments and childcare.
Alderman was a three-year letterman for the Titan football team from 1957-59 as an offensive lineman. He went on to be drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 10th round (111th overall) of the 1960 draft. He was picked up and became an original Minnesota Viking in the expansion draft of 1961. He played 15 years in the NFL, 14 of those with the Vikings protecting Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton. Alderman served as the general manager of the NFL's Denver Broncos in 1981 for one season. The six-time pro bowler was named to the NFL All-Pro first team in 1969 and the second team in 1965 as voted by the Associated Press.
Over 60 players will be present at the dinner and over 20 players available for an autograph session, which will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Suburban Collection Showplace on Saturday May 18th. Please go to
