Lodato, Sylvain Honored With President's Award

Guershom Sylvain (L) and Abbey Lodato (R) were named the President's Award winner.
DETROIT (4/22/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy honored its best student-athletes, while the Titans had a day to unwind and relax before finals week as the Athletic Department hosted the annual Tommy's on Wednesday evening.

Soccer seniors Abbey Lodato and Guershom Sylvain earned the top honor of the night in the President's Award, given to a male and female graduating senior who, during his/her tenure at Detroit Mercy, has shown academic and athletic excellence. These individuals are leaders on and off the field and represent the true essence of being a Titan student-athlete.

Lodato was selected All-Horizon League First Team three times and started her career as the league's Freshman of the Year. She led the team and tied for second in the league with 22 points and eight goals this past season after helping lead the squad back to the postseason as a junior. Her 62 career points are eighth in school history, while her 24 goals are seventh. She was also a four-time member of the UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll, a three-time member of the Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Rolls, and was named to the HL All-Academic Team this past fall.

Sylvain was named All-Horizon League Second Team as a senior, after tying for the team lead and second in the Horizon League with two game-winning goals, and tying for second on the squad with two goals, two assists, and six points. He was also a four-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a three-time member of the HL Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.

The Titan Club Award (Male and female student-athlete on the merits of athletic performance and academic excellence)

Trinity Fessler - Fessler has been a great leader for the Titans and is leading the Titans' charge for their first postseason tournament since 2019. Last season, she ranked second on the team in batting average, OPS, hits, RBI, doubles, and total bases, and is currently topping the squad with 18 RBI, and second on the team in hitting at .304. She has also been named to the Athletic Director and Horizon League Honor Rolls.

Joshua Otten – Otten has put his name in the record book for cross country and track and field in his four years, earning All-HL Second Team in cross country as a junior and First Team as a senior after taking third in a career-best time of 23:55, just one second shy of the school 8k record. He won the Horizon League indoor title in the mile in 2005, the first mile HL win in school history, and recently broke the school record in the 1,500 meters. He is also a six-time Horizon League All-Academic Team recipient between cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field.

Reverend Norbert Huetter Award (Male and female student-athlete who sets an example for others by their display of attitude, dedication and leadership)

Drew Pierson – Pierson is a two-time team captain and earned his third All-Horizon League award as he was tabbed First Team in the fall after leading the team with 13 points and six goals, tied for fourth in the conference. He has also been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team twice.

Gabriella Tapp – Tapp has been a leader for the Titans since she transferred to the University. She has worked very hard with SAAC and represented Detroit Mercy at both the Horizon League and NCAA meetings. She is also a starter for the team and recently shot a career-low 36-hole score and is second on the team with an 80.5 average.

The Dad Butler Award (Awarded to a male and female student–athlete who has shown determination in the rehabilitation of an athletic injury)

Danton Molotky - Molotky has overcome a brutal injury in practice that saw him have to have surgery on his spleen. During his absence, he was a leader on the sidelines as the Titans made a run at the NEC Championship last season. He has played in 11 games this year and scored his first collegiate goal with a pair of strikes against Bellarmine.

Ashley Bates - Bates returned to the soccer team this past fall as one of its best defenders after missing the 2024 season with a knee injury. She started all 17 games and helped lead the Titan backline.

Larry Bleach Award (Male and female student-athlete who sets the strength and conditioning standards for other student-athletes to follow)

Anthony Yip - Yip exudes a mindset and work ethic that this award is all about. He is prompt, consistent in his effort, and supportive of his teammates in every training session. He has also been a great leader of the Titan throwing unit, which is going through a transition in the coaching phase.

Claire Borg - Borg gains this honor for the second-straight season. She has established the standard for what it means to earn this award, as she demonstrates a process-oriented mindset, a disciplined approach to her development, and a palpable level of energy for her teammates.

The Top Performance Award (Awarded to a male and female athlete or team and dedicated to the top athletic performance of the season)

Joey DeCasas - DeCasas was named the Indoor Track & Field Alfreeda Goff Athlete Of The Year. His best effort was a league-best 7.58 meters in the long jump at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, a school record and ranked 43rd in the nation.

Lyla Mullins - Mullins has broken the school shot put record three times and took gold at the Horizon League Indoor Championships with a throw of 14.80 meters. She won the shot put at Oakland's Elaine Leigh Track & Field Invitational by extending her mark with a heave of 15.36m.

Tyler Spratt - Spratt was named to the HL All-Freshmen Team, scoring in double figures 15 times against league rivals, counting the postseason. He netted a season-best 28 points in the win against NKU, connecting on 8-of-10 from three (the most 3-pointers by a Titan since Antoine Davis in 2023), and also had the game-winning basket on the road at Wright State.

Nadia Hill - Hill has won the high jump five times as a rookie, and just missed the HL crown, taking silver with a leap of 1.70m. During the indoor year, she posted a mark of 1.75 meters at Eastern Michigan, second in school history.

Earl Cureton Community Service Award (Awarded to a student-athlete or program for excellence in community service. It was reestablished in 2024 to honor a student-athlete or program for excellence in community service. It is named after the late Titan Hall-Of-Famer and two-time NBA champion Earl Cureton, who served as the Detroit Pistons' community ambassador and was involved in numerous community service projects and initiatives)

Colin Monroe & Abby Fifield - Monroe, a men's soccer goalie, and Fifield, a track and cross country runner, have both been leaders in SAAC and have led all community service projects.
