BUFFALO, N.Y. (10/18/2014) -- Senior
Colin Creagh made it back-to-back years that a Titan has come away with a title as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Canisius Alumni Classic.
As a team, Detroit was second with 35 points as four Titans were in the top 10.
After going 12 years without an individual winner, Creagh recorded his first collegiate victory running the 8k course in 25:06, just four seconds off of his personal record and five seconds ahead of the runner-up. He held off four Canisius runners and joined former teammate
Martin Nelkie as an individual champion. Nelkie won the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational in 2013.
Freshman
Ben Kendell was sixth in 25:31, just six seconds shy of his PR for the season.
Sophomore
Ryan Leahy set a career-low with a seventh-place finish in 25:47, besting his previous mark by 24 seconds, while junior
Derek Gielarowski was ninth in 25:54, a new PR by 28 seconds.
Senior
George Holman claimed 12th in 26:32. Freshman
Charlie Felton placed 16th with a run of 27:10 and junior
Austin Wigent was right behind him at 17th in 27:17.
Rounding out the Titan line-up was senior
Ylli Alla's 27:51 for 29th and freshman
Miles Kelleher taking 31st in 28:17.
Detroit will now have two weeks to get ready for defense of its crown as the Titans head to the Horizon League Championship on Nov. 1, held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. UDM won its first-ever cross country championship last season in Boardman, Ohio.
