DETROIT (4/13/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. and also the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational hosted by Siena Heights in Adrian, Mich. this weekend. Senior
Eric Lewis was at Bucknell and he broke his own school record in the hammer throw.
Lewis had a toss of 62.38m/204-8 to finish second in a field of 29 to post the second highest throw in the Horizon League this year. Lewis shattered his own school record of 19.36m/63-6.25 as he launched a throw that should place him in the NCAA Preliminary Round in which he would make an appearance for the second time in his career.
At Bucknell,
Joshua Carolin led most of the way in the 1500 meters before finishing with a time of 4:06.07 while
Alex Wesche ran a time of 4:04.84.
Austin Wigent set a new personal best finishing 22nd in a field of 81 with a mark of 4:01.17 as he made his push to the front in the 800m to 1200m portion of the race.
Carolin and Wesche also ran in the 800 meters as Carolin ran a time of 1:54.73 good for 21st and Wesche won his heat with a time of 1:57.78.
In the 5000 meters,
Colin Creagh set a personal record with a mark of 15:00.44 and
Ryan Leahy also had a new career-best with a time of 15:02.55. With the finishes, Creagh moves into the No. 8 all-time Titan mark and Leahy at No. 9 as Creagh was 13th in the race and Leahy was 16th in the field of 106.
Martin Nelkie ran the 10,000 meter run and was looking to become the third Titan to break 31 minutes in the 10k. He did not disappoint as he finished with a time of 30:50.55 and came in 24th.
At Siena Heights, fewer Titans were in competition but
Joe Harmon had a time of 23.49 in the 200 meters as he finished 20th overall in a field of 44. Harmon also had a time of 52.07 in the 400 meters.
Another highlight from Siena Heights came in the 400 meter hurdles as
Khalil Parris won the event with a time of 55.27 topping a field of nine runners.
Detroit will look ahead to next weekend where the Titans will be at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State April 18-19 and also the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State on April 19.
