Tommy Tuesday's Start this Week @TommyTitan313

DETROIT (6/3/14) – The University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Department in conjunction with Tommy Titan is pleased to announce the launching of Tommy Tuesday's today (Tuesday, June 3).

Tommy Titan, the mascot for Detroit since it changed its name from the Tigers to Titans in 1919, will share his adventures with his fans on his social media sites Twitter (@TommyTitan313) and Facebook (Tommy Titan) as he travels around Southeast Michigan.

Tommy's first adventure was a visit with Michael Miller the Titans Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine as he was a little banged up after a long season. As a result of some of his wounds he will be out of commission for a couple of weeks, but has promised to keep his Tommy Tuesday's rolling with some help from his friends.

So over the next couple of weeks friends and fans of Tommy's can wish him well on his Twitter and Facebook accounts as well as start sharing ideas of spots around Southeast Michigan that Tommy can visit once he is ready to go.

Tommy is also looking forward to competing in the 2nd Annual DSBA "Chip Champion Challenge" that will take part on Monday, July 14 at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township, Michigan. Tommy will look to knock off Grizz who won this event last year. Other mascots that are scheduled to be at the event are Paws (Tigers), Roary (Lions), Hooper (Pistons), Champ (Detroit Sports Commission), W (Wayne State), Swoop (Eastern Michigan) Sparty (Michigan State), and Rocky (Toledo).

Each participating mascot receives a wedge and a golf ball and attempts to chip it 20 to 30 yards toward the designated pin. The mascot with the closest shot to the pin is declared the winner of the chip champion challenge trophy.

Team mascots spend about 90 minutes at the DSBA event - from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. The chip champion challenge will be held at 8:30 a.m.

Tommy will also be at the annual Titan Golf Outing on Monday, August 4 at Western Golf and Country Club in Redford home of the Titans back-to-back Horizon League champion women's golf team.

Registration is now open and available to all golfers and supporters of Titan athletics willing to take their best swing on the course. To RSVP, contact Clay Shaw, Director of Marketing, by e-mail at clay.shaw@udmercy.edu, or by phone at (313) 993-1705.
