DETROIT (9/22/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team opens its Horizon League schedule this week beginning with a 3 p.m. home match Wednesday against Cleveland State at Titan Field. The Titans then travel to Wright State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
The Titans (2-4-1) have played six of their first seven games away from Titan Field to start the 2014 season. Detroit's lone home game was on Aug. 31 against Central Michigan in which the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie after two overtimes.
Last Week's RecapDetroit went 1-1 last weekend playing two road games in the span of three days. The Titans dropped a 3-1 match at Ohio on Friday, Sept. 12, before earning their second non-conference, road victory of the season in a 3-0 shutout triumph at Bowling Green. The shutout for UDM was its third of the season.
Riley Earns Horizon League HonorsSenior midfielder
Alyssa Riley tallied a league-best seven points during the week of Sept. 8-14 to earn Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 15. Riley had a hand in all four of Detroit's goals in road matches at Ohio and Bowling Green. She had the lone goal in Detroit's 3-1 loss to Ohio and then scored two goals and added an assist in UDM's 3-0 victory at Bowling Green.
Riley leads the Titans in goals (three), points (seven), shots (18) and shots on goal (12) so far this season. She has played nearly every minute for Detroit during the 2014 season.
Home CookingThe Titans return home Wednesday for the first time in more than three weeks. Detroit is 12-0-1 in its last 13 home games at Titan Field dating back to the 2012 season. Detroit has also recorded 13-straight shutouts at home.
Detroit was about as good as you can be at home during the 2013 season and didn't allow a goal in eight games, posting eight shutout victories and outscoring opponents 22-0. In conference play, Detroit went 4-0 at home during the 2013 season.
Scouting Cleveland StateThe Vikings are 5-4-1 entering their conference opener against the Titans on Wednesday. Cleveland State is unbeaten in its last three games and has a 5-1-1 record after starting the season 0-3. CSU has also notched three-straight shutouts, outscoring its opponent 8-0 in that stretch. Most recently, the Vikings earned a 4-0 home win against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 19.
Senior forward Amanda Sivic leads the team with four goals and is tied for the team lead with eight points. Junior defender Chloe Fadenholz also has eight points (three goals, two assists) and has team-high totals of 21 shots and 11 shots on goal, while junior forward Vickie Havas has two game-winning goals and three scores overall for CSU. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Wood has made all 10 starts and has a 0.98 GAA and 82.4 save percentage for Cleveland State.
Sonia Curvelo is in her first season as head coach at CSU. She spent the last five years as head coach at Mississippi Valley State.
Scouting Wright StateWright State enters Wednesday's road game at Youngstown State with a 3-6 record. The Raiders have a three-match win streak at home, however. Last week, WSU defeated both Tennessee Tech and Morehead State at home with shutout victories. The Raiders have also been shut out five times this year.
WSU has nine goals in nine games, eight of them by different players. Freshman midfielder Bryce Hueber has two goals, four points and 20 shots to lead the team in each category. Junior Natalie Sedlock and freshmen Addie Englehart and Ellie Ganz each have a goal and an assist for the Raiders, and in goal, junior Halle Pyle has a 0.88 goals against average and an 83.0 save percentage in nine games.
Head coach Pat Ferguson is in his ninth season as head coach at Wright State.
All-Time SeriesDetroit is 6-2-2 all-time against Cleveland State. The Titans did drop a 2-0 match to the Vikings in their most recent meeting on Sept. 28, 2013, in Cleveland, but UDM is 4-0 at home in the series.
The Titans are 10-11-4 in the all-time series against Wright State. Detroit picked up a 2-0 victory at home against the Raiders during the 2013 season and also won the last meeting on WSU's home turf, a 1-0 victory during the 2012 campaign. Six games in the series have gone to overtime.
Senior ClassDetroit has four seniors entering the 2014 season.

Victoria Sollestre and
Abbey Troy are all entering their senior seasons for the Titans.
Riley has started all 63 games she has played in during her Titan career, scoring 15 goals and adding 12 assists for 42 career points. She entered the 2014 season on the verge of entering the top 10 in program history in goals, assists and points.
Burtraw has six goals and three assists in 43 starts across three seasons for Detroit. Sollestre has been a staple on the back line for Detroit, making 49 starts throughout her career. Troy has played in 35 games during her career and started 11 games for the Titans.
Upcoming ScheduleFollowing this week's games to open the conference schedule, the Titans play at UIC on Saturday, Oct. 4, in a doubleheader with the Detroit men's soccer team. Game time in Chicago is set for 5:30 p.m. local time. Detroit then returns home for two games with an Oct. 8 contest against Horizon League foe Youngstown State and an Oct. 14 non-conference match vs. Madonna at Titan Field.

Mike Lupenec - the only coach in the history of the Titans' program - is three wins away from 200 victories for his career. Lupenec has led the Titans to 197 wins in his 22-year career in the Motor City.
