LOUISVILLE, Ky. (3/1/2015) --
The Titans were down at the half, but came out on fire after the break as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team scored nine-straight goals en route to a 14-11 victory at Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.

The game was the fourth and final contest of the Midwest Classic that also featured Marquette and Ohio State.

Senior Brandon Beauregard led the way with a career-high five points on two goals and a team-best three assists. Freshman Mark Anstead had four points recording his second hat trick of the season with an assist and seniors Shayne Adams and Scott Drummond found the back of the net twice.

Detroit (3-2) was down 6-4 at the half, but scored four goals in the first four minutes of the third period and later extended it to a 9-0 run over nearly 18 minutes of play.

Bellarmine (1-3) netted three-straight goals in the final 4:26 of the second period to take that lead, but it was all Titans after that.

Anstead started the explosive offensive attack with a goal off a pass from senior Mike Birney just a little more than a minute into the third. A penalty on the play on Bellarmine put UDM on the man-up and after sophomore Greg Marzec won a faceoff, Adams located Drummond who beat the goalie to knot it at 6-6 at the 13:16 mark.

Detroit would take the lead for good with 11:15 on the clock as it took advantage of another Knights' penalty and B. Beauregard found Adams, who buried the shot inbetween the pipes. On the ensuing faceoff, sophomore Kyle Beauregard got the ground ball and attacked the net scoring for an 8-6 advantage.

Bellarmine was then called for a three-minute, non-releasable penalty for an illegal stick and Detroit exploited it for two goals. First, B. Beauregard hooked up with Drummond and he had his second man-up marker of the game and that was followed by Sean Birney, who got a pass from Adams and his strike made it 10-6 with 8:21 remaining in the period.

The red, white and blue then had to wait nearly five minutes for its next goal, which came off the crosse of sophomore Brad Harris. Detroit won the next faceoff and got off three shots before B. Beauregard netted a scored for a 12-6 Titan lead with 2:35 on the clock.  UDM's final goal came with 12:37 remaining in the fourth as B. Beauregard picked up his third assist on an Anstead tally.

The Titans then saw Bellarmine score five straight to trim the lead to just two, 13-11, with 3:26 left, but Detroit was able to cool that that charge and pushed its lead to 14-11 as Anstead recorded his third goal with less than thirty seconds on the clock.

Detroit outshot Bellarmine, 43-40, and had the edge in ground balls, 31-30. UDM also saw the Knights commit 21 turnovers with Detroit causing 11 of them. The Titans were also a perfect 21-of-21 in the clear game, while Bellarmine was 15-of-21.

The Titans – who led the nation last year in man-up offense - were 5-of-7 on the power play, totaling six goals with the extra player.

Sophomore Jason Weber made 15 saves, while Marzec was 8-of-14 in faceoffs with two ground balls. Junior Jordan Yono and B. Beauregard each had two caused turnovers and sophomore JD Hess, M. Birney and K. Beauregard each had a team-best three ground balls.

UDM will have a quick turnaround for its next game as the Titans entertain Mercer at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac on Wednesday, March 4. Fans, please be advised that the game time has been changed to Noon. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
