Mike Birney and
Brandon Beauregard netted three goals apiece and the Titans scored the game's first seven goals as the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team took it to Manhattan, 13-7, on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field.
Birney finished with a season-high four points and his eighth career hat trick. Beauregard netted three goals for his second-straight hat trick and senior
Shayne Adams had two goals and two assists.
In total, eight Detroit (5-4, 1-1 MAAC) players registered goals on the day as the red, white and blue set a school record with 58 total shots.

Detroit got on the board early and often with seven goals in the first period.
Birney started the action by taking a pass from Adams and beating the keeper just over a minute into the contest. About 30 seconds later, redshirt freshman
Pat Masterson found redshirt freshman
Adam Susalla and he fired one in for his first collegiate marker.
Detroit then had three unassisted goals in a row as freshman
Sean Birney, Adams and Beauregard all found the back of the net for a 5-0 lead at the 6:05 mark. Junior
Andy Hebden then took a pass from Adams and scored for a 6-0 advantage and the final goal of the stanza came from Adams off a feed from
Mike Birney with the man-up.
Manhattan (0-10, 0-2 MAAC) ended that run with 9:14 left in the second, but the Titans came right back with freshman
Mark Anstead's lone goal of the game. The rookie then found
Brandon Beauregard for another score and a 9-1 lead with 3:57 left in the second.
At the half, Detroit was outshooting Manhattan, 36-16, and the Jaspers were just 7-of-12 on clears. UDM also had more ground balls, 23-14, and Manhattan had nine turnovers.
Mike Birney revved up the offense again to begin the third with a strike at the 13:03 mark. After a couple of Manhattan goals,
Brandon Beauregard netted his third of the contest as he tied his career high with his 23rd point of the season.
In the fourth, Birney got his hat trick on the man-up just 12 seconds into the period for a 12-5 advantage. Senior
Tyler Harper then put it all away with his first collegiate marker to make it 13-7 with less than two minutes left.
Detroit ended the game with a 58-35 shot advantage and also won the battle of ground balls, 38-30. The Titans were 19-of-21 on clears and 12-of-22 on faceoffs.
