ROCK HILL, S.C. (3/28/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday at the three-day Winthrop Invitational. Saturday's events at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex concluded the first meet of the outdoor season for the Titans.
Sophomore
Ashley Bayles won the discus on Saturday, capturing the event over 49 other competitors. Bayles earned a PR in the event with a toss of 43.06 meters (141' 3.50"), the fourth best discus throw in school history. Her previous best in the event was 38.29 meters. Freshman
Delaney O'Rourke made her collegiate debut in the event, reaching 27.69 meters (90' 10.5").
Graduate student
Shannon Marchant placed fourth out of 22 competitors in the 800 meter run. She crossed the line with a time of 2:18.91.
Senior
Zeinab Baydoun finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, earning a time of 11:26.96.
Senior
Hana Hunt placed 17th in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:07.52. Sophomore
Samantha Zakalowski and junior
Grace Battista finished in 23rd and 24th, respectively, with times of 1:10.84 and 1:10.98. Sophomore
Natalie Peterson followed in 27th for the Titans in 1:11.65.
Junior
Alexandra Lindig made her debut in the javelin, finishing in the the top half in the event with a final distance of 27.06 meters (88' 9.5").
Freshman

Sara Taylor earned times of 4:57.18 and 5:17.05 in the 1,500 meter run for Detroit.
The Titans were fourth out of 12 teams in the 4x400 meter relay, finishing with a time of 4:05.53.
Detroit returns to the track and field next weekend, competing in the Oakland Duals on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4. The Golden Grizzlies will visit UDM for the throwing events on Friday before the Titans visit Rochester on Saturday for the rest of the meet.
