DETROIT (4/11/2015) --
 Freshman Mark Anstead capped a huge comeback victory for the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team as the Titans ended the game on a 5-0 run to upend Monmouth, 9-8, On Saturday at Titan Field. The win was the biggest fourth quarter comeback victory in Titan history. 
 
The win moved Detroit to 6-5 on the season and 2-2 in the MAAC, while the Hawks dropped to 5-6, 2-2 in league play.
 
Anstead and senior Shayne Adams finished with two goals and an assist. Junior Jordan Yono tied his career high with three caused turnovers and tallied a career-best four ground balls and sophomore Jason Weber made eight saves. Sophomore Greg Marzec tied his career best going 8-of-12 on faceoffs and also scored his first collegiate goal and junior Damien Hicks won 6-of-9 grabbing four GB's.
 
Detroit found themselves down 5-2 at the half and 8-4 heading into the third when the red, white and blue began the thrilling win.
 
Sophomore Kyle Beauregard started the charge with a goal at the 12:28 mark. Just 30 seconds later, Anstead fed freshman Sean Birney and he was able to beat the goalie. A minute later and Adams was able to sneak inside and found the back of the net to make it 8-7 with 10:45 remaining.
 
The Titans defense then held off Monmouth as the Hawks went on offense for nearly four minutes, and after firing numerous shots, Yono was able to get the ball back with a caused turnover.
 
Senior Scott Drummond then knotted it up with 4:55 on the clock and Anstead put in the game winner with 2:18 left. The Titan defense then had to hold off Monmouth and even killed a one-minute man-up situation for the Hawks with under two minutes to go.
 
Detroit was outshot by Monmouth, 43-37, but won the battle of ground balls, 38-28. The Titans were 14-of-21 on faceoffs, 13-of-15 on clears and caused 10 turnovers on the day.
 
UDM opened the day with a goal by Anstead five minutes into the contest. Monmouth then came back with four-straight markers to jump out in front until Adams found sophomore Brad Harris for a goal at the 12:43 mark of the second.
 
The Hawks went on another run netting three in a row to open a 7-2 advantage early in the third. Detroit cut into that with two goals in the span of 18 seconds as Marzec won a faceoff and raced down the field to beat the goalie for his first career score. Senior Brandon Beauregard then fed Adams, who laced one in to get Detroit within 7-4 with 9:43 left in third, but Monmouth got that back and was up four, 8-4, when the Titans began their comeback with less than 13 minutes left in the game.
 
Redshirt freshman Pat Masterson recorded a caused turnover and corralled a season-high six ground balls. Adams picked up four ground balls and junior Mike Spuller had three. Senior Chris Shevins tallied a caused turnover and three GB's and sophomore Marcus Butters posted two ground balls and a caused turnover.
 
Detroit will now get ready for a big road game next Saturday, April 18, as the Titans travel to play the defending MAAC champion Siena Saints.
 
Game Notes:
Detroit leads the all-time series, 2-0… Titan head coach Chris Kolon '09 (MBA) and Monmouth head coach Brian Fischer were teammates and graduates of Rutgers… Detroit entered the game one of 10 teams in the nation undefeated at home and improved to 5-0 in home contests… The 14 faceoff wins are tied for the most on the season with the 14 Detroit won at Bellarmine… Adams ran his NCAA high consecutive point streak to 57-straight games…
